Pure tungsten is a refractory metal. This metal class is characterized by a very high melting point, higher than that of platinum (1,772°C / 3,222F / 2,045K), and by an extraordinary resistance to wear and heat.
Tungsten is primarily known for its use in filaments in incandescent lamps. Tungsten is also frequently used in the medical, nuclear energy, electronic, electrical and chemical industries.
