Tungsten is the ideal material for X-ray tubes due to its high heat resistance and ability to shield against X-rays. 3D printing is opening up new possibilities for tungsten-based products in terms of design and the integration of additional parts. In this example small components were printed in one single production step, with no need for subsequent assembly work.
Strength of tungsten: Strength 3D printing: The challenge: Printed tungsten parts contain foreign substances that will reduce the lifetime of the X-ray tube. The solution: Dunlee developed a process that completely removes foreign substances from the parts, thus allowing for the integration of 3D-printed pure tungsten parts in a vacuum.
